baby kisses

sometimes at mealtime, playtime, bedtime, or anytime (admittedly, not USUALLY in the midst of a pile of cereal), i just get an urge to cover my sweet baby boy (and bigger boy, and biggest girl) with kisses of thankfulness to God that i get to be his (their) mommy for a while, and by a "while," i mean of course the expected, hoped-for, lifetime-of-years that is the smidgen, whisper, flash of approximately one century, in the realm of all people and places and spaces that have ever been. [for any parent who experiences life with their child as a literal whisper of few moments, few days, few years...oh, heart's incredible break; grief therein is most certainly enormous & unfathomable]

i wonder: what if they had been born of me in another place, another space, another time...

what happened in haiti...

what if you or i woke up tomorrow morning in the poorest country in our hemisphere? what if it was our neighborhood where the earth quaked...

i posted some of this on facebook, but am also putting it on both of my blogs. i have had so many emotions, so many thoughts over the last few days, and yet so little to say, in a way, too.

i have been checking updates from the global orphan project, perspectives from new friend Kelly (Isabelle's mom), and updates from a random discovery of a young woman from Minnesota who was volunteering at an orphanage near PAP when it happenened; her blog is here.

i have seen images, as i'm sure you have too, and the whole thing is just so horrifically unimaginably, heartbreakingly sad. i pray for the people who've been injured; for the people who've begun to cry rivers of tears of hurt-heart-devastation of losing loved ones; for family friend of friends of ours, who've lost their 8-year-old; for a cousin whose friend died there, and i pray for those who are still looking, still...looking...

words fail. we see more images: a whisper of hope-help... kind doctor and nurse hands bandage, tears are wiped, arms embrace, and hopefully a rush of love in the form of aid is slowly trickling into the lives of as many haitians as possible.

i am thankful for the gift of a God who does. not. aim to cause pain, who does not aim to destroy, but who is Inventor and Author of healing, reconciliation, new life, and above all things, love. i humbly hope: may we be Love to a few who hurt in haiti?

WHAT IF a few...hundred...thousand of us cleared the dresser/nightstand/car of all our spare change (or more) and sent it to haiti? one of our family's favorite groups is global orphan project- they have done a phenomenal job caring for hundreds of children in haiti for years now, and they are already in the trenches of helping haitians in the aftermath...check it out here- theglobalorphanproject.org (or send to whomever you trust). quick. now. before you get distracted with mundane details!!!!
